2022 U-Monitor Call for Interest
The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), formerly PTCIJ, is looking for student journalists on its UDEME project to monitor, track and report procurement-related issues in Nigeria. Interested applicants must be good writers and passionate about demanding accountability from the government and other stakeholders.

UDEME is a social accountability project, established in 2018 to monitor, track and report on issues around transparency and accountability in the public procurement space. The project also empowers citizens to become active participants in the democratic process by holding the government (local, state and federal) to account.

We are delighted to invite applications from Nigerian students who are passionate about reforming the challenged state of infrastructure and keen on engaging major stakeholders to develop policies that will transform society.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants must have spent at least one semester in any tertiary institution in Nigeria.
  • Applicants have no less than three semesters to graduate, including the one currently running.
  • Applicants must indicate the states they are resident in, which is their location for engagement on the project. For example, if you are a student of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom will be your focal state throughout the engagement period.
  • Applicants must provide proof of published works (link or scanned page).
  • Applicants must submit a story pitch (not less than 200 words) on any procurement related issue in Nigeria (preferably your location state)

Benefits:

  • U-Monitors will benefit from a monthly stipend.
  • Stories that meet standards will be published in prominent national dailies.
  • U-monitors will be placed on a mentorship program on data and investigative.
