Google has opened the Developer Student Club (DSC) program aimed at providing the student community a head start on latest technologies like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Mobile & Web Development.

The Developer Student Clubs (DSC) program is a grass-root channel to provide mobile development skills to students, towards employability. The DSC program provides an opportunity for students enrolled in universities to act as “agent of change” on their campus(es) – while acquiring relevant technical and business skills to solve local businesses’ problems.

Google Developer Student Clubs are community groups for college and university students interested in Google developer technologies. Students from all undergraduate or graduate programs with an interest in growing as a developer are welcome.

By joining a DSC, students grow their knowledge in a peer-to-peer learning environment and build solutions for local businesses and their community.The Developer Student Club (DSC) program is a Google Developers initiative designed to provide a space for students (enrolled in accredited colleges/universities in Africa) to build their mobile and web development skills and knowledge while solving local business problems around their institution.

A DSC lead is a student leader on campus whose mission is to use technology to make a difference, not only in their universities, but also in their communities more widely. An eligible candidate for the new DSC lead roles are students currently enrolled in a computer science course or related engineering discipline at any accredited college/university in Sub saharan Africa.

Their duties will include:

  • Setting up a Developer Student Club within their institution/campus;
  • Creating a Core Team — including faculty advisors, fellow students and relevant technology experts — to help in planning and execution of peer group readiness-focused activities;
  • Organizing and delivering mobile development-focused workshops to fellow students;
  • Enabling more students to become trainers and support them in conducting sessions;
  • Identifying local organizations who can benefit from mobile solutions, and facilitate solution development activities;
  • Hosting showcases and other events to highlight the solutions developed by students; and
  • Committing for one-year to act as a Student Lead.

Eligibilities:

  • Have a minimum of two years left until graduation.
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university.
  • Can commit to program for one year.
  • Passionate about creating impact in community.
  • Strong technical understanding of computer programming and/or software engineering.
  • Have experience with event planning or leading a team.
  • Have some connection to the local developer community.
  • Host a meetup event ideally once a month, and at least every 3 months.
