The Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ), through its fact-checking project, DUBAWA, is now accepting applications from professional journalists for its flagship 2019 fellowship program.
The Dubawa Fact-Checking Fellowship aims at providing an opportunity for five (5) analytical, daring, dedicated and innovative journalists to research and write truth-based and factual stories; and also to institute a culture of fact-checking in newsrooms across Nigeria.
The Fellowship is inspired by the need to tackle the societal menace of mis- and dis-information in Nigeria and beyond, thereby creating a safer media ecosystem where truth and accuracy can thrive without jeopardizing freedom of expression.
Compensation:

Supported by Heinrich Boll Stiftung Foundation, the Fellowship offers a monthly stipend of N100,000 to cover all costs of the investigation.
Eligibility:

The 6-month, highly competitive Fellowship is open to all Nigerian journalists with a strong track record of publications, working in any newsroom with significant national and online reach.
- They seek applications from candidates interested in pursuing stories that border on politics, economy, health, security; or any such matters that are in the interest of the public.
- The applicant must also provide proof of approval from their newsroom that authorizes the applicant to undertake fact-checking work and an assurance that fact-checks will be widely circulated on their media platform and published on Dubawa’s website as well.
Applicants must not have done fact-checking work before, however, they will give special consideration to journalists who:
- Demonstrate an interest in and commitment to fact-checking and verification
- Can demonstrate that fact-checking and verification is a new and important field of journalism necessary for effecting policy changes in Nigeria
- Are women and/or journalists from diverse backgrounds
- Can and are willing to learn how to conduct data journalism and investigative journalism
- Can and are willing to deliver an average of at least three stories per month
