Take part in our competition and join Climate Tracker in Vienna for a journalism and communications workshop!

Climate Tracker in Cooperation with the OeAD-Housing Office will be training young people on journalism and communication in a workshop in Vienna the 17th and 18th of April. The best two participants coming out of the workshop will get a scholarship for the prestigious Alternative Economic and Monetary Systems Summer University or the Green Building Solutions Summer University, both to be held in Vienna this summer.

In a world where people doubt if climate change is real and fake news is the new normal, scientists and experts are more and more taking a step further and wanting to learn how to communicate their work.

Doing research, coming up with new innovative ideas, or being an expert in your area is as important as being able to communicate it effectively to a general audience. For example, the IPCC, the biggest scientific body on climate change, has ramped up its efforts in the last years to communicate climate science more clearly and has given tips to scientists who do so.

If you feel that this is something you would like to learn – then you are in the right place!

To participate in the Climate Tracker workshop that will be held in Vienna the 17th and 18th of April, you have to write and publish an article before the 15th March about alternative economic systems or green building solutions.

Up to 20 people will be selected to participate in the workshop and develop their skills as communicators. The 2 best participants will receive a scholarship to the two summer schools in Vienna.

Eligibility:

  • Everyone who is based in Europe is welcome to participate.
  • They accept applicants that are between 18 and 30 years old, but you are encouraged to apply anyway if you do not fulfill this requirement (age is just a number anyway).

Do you want to join? Here is what you have to do:

To participate in our competition and win a place in the Climate Tracker workshop, you have to write an article about one of these 2 topics::

Alternative Economic Systems: for example, you could write about a working example of an alternative currency, a degrowth practise, cooperatives, or how to incorporate nature in economics.

Green Building Solutions: for example, on good initiatives of urban planning or passive housing, benefits of green roofs and walls, or renewable energy in buildings.

Then you have to publish the article before the 15th March in media in your country or region. It can be a newspaper, a magazine, an online news site, a blog etc. Once your article is published, you have to submit the link to us through our app.

Climate Tracker will revise the articles submitted through the app, give you feedback and tips, and select the best writers.

What is included in the prize?

  • If you are amongst the selected for the Climate Tracker workshop, you will be invited to participate in the 2-day training. You will have to pay a fee of 50 EUR which includes light refreshments. Transportation to Vienna or accommodation in Vienna are not provided, although we will help facilitate it.
