NASA seeks to sponsor graduate student research that has significant potential to contribute to the agency’s goal of creating innovative new space technologies for America’s exploration, science and economic futures.
This call solicits proposals from individuals pursuing or planning to pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in relevant space technology disciplines at accredited U.S. universities. Recipients, referred to as NASA Space Technology Research Fellows, will perform innovative research and improve America’s technological competitiveness by providing a pipeline of cutting-edge space technologies.
Awarded fellows will perform research at their respective campuses and at NASA centers. In addition to his or her faculty advisor, each fellow will be matched with a technically relevant and community-engaged NASA researcher who will serve as the research collaborator on the award. Through this collaboration, graduate students will be able to take advantage of broader and/or deeper space technology research opportunities directly related to their academic and career objectives, acquire a more detailed understanding of the potential end applications of their space technology efforts and directly disseminate their research results within the NASA community.
This is the ninth call NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate has issued for space technology research fellowships since 2011. The grants, worth as much as $80,000 per year, will coincide with the start of the fall 2019 academic term. Grant awards resulting from this competitive selection will be made to accredited U.S. universities.
