RES4Africa will support 20 Women entrepreneurs for the “Microgrid Academy” (MGA) training that will take place under the auspices of AWEEF.

The Micro-Grid Academy (MGA) is a new Eastern-African Regional vocational capacity building platform that aims to enhance access to energy and green jobs market through technical and entrepreneurial training programs on decentralized renewable energy solutions.

The MGA is a new capacity building platform located in KPLC Institute of Energy Studies & Research, that provides theoretical and practical trainings on energy access and decentralised renewable energy solutions to young East-African and international technicians and engineers.

The training will take place from 4-13 April 2018 in Nairobi.

Sponsorship: The sponsorship will cover:

  • For about 10 women entrepreneurs from Nairobi: training fee and training tools lunch and coffee break; site visit and meal.
  • For about 10 women entrepreneurs from out of Nairobi but still in Kenya including other East African countries: transport to Nairobi with local bus; accommodation with half board (breakfast + dinner); training fee and training tools; lunch and coffee break; site visit transport and meal.

NOTE: The accommodation with half board – for the 10 women entrepreneurs from out of Nairobi – will be at a specific affiliated venue, not chosen by the attendees

Selection criteria:

  • No minimum education requirements are applied. However, applicants with secondary school diploma, entrepreneurship experience and proven interest in energy and mini-grid is given priority.
  • Applicants must be able to speak and read English.
  • Applicants from all countries can apply to participate to the MGA. However, applicants from Sub-Saharan countries and particularly from East African Community (EAC) will be given priority.
  • No age or other restrictions are applied. However, applicants up to 30 years old will be given priority.
  • Entrepreneurs coming from villages or associations supplied with mini-grid will be given priority.
