Where could you work?
Both rotations are one year in length. They could be local, regional or international and are dependent on our business needs, so it’s important that you’re open and willing to rotate into any role or market.

Over the course of your programme, we’ll help to grow your leadership skills, empowering you to develop your potential and lead our future growth.

Networking & interacting
When you join the programme, you’ll take part in our three-day global welcome event, having the chance to meet your fellow graduates and gain a better understanding of what we do and how we do it. You’ll be given an introduction to Aviva, our strategy, markets and business, and learn what we’re expecting from you as a graduate. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend a Q&A with our Group CEO Mark Wilson and ask any questions on your mind.
Following the global welcome event, local markets will commence their local orientation to focus on more practical day-to-day information relating to their specific role and introducing them to their specific market.

Perspektivy Cross-Border journalism programme (Fully Funded)

Cross-Border journalism programme (Fully Funded)

Deadline: October 1st, 2017

Venue: Russia

Autumn 2017 call for applications for the fifth season of Cross-Border journalism programme.

The new digital era of media, and the globalisation of economic and political processes have brought new challenges to journalism. In particular, they have highlighted the need to develop international professional networks in order to understand regional characteristics and better cover transnational stories.

To reflect the needs of journalists Perspektivy is opening a scheme that aims to connect journalists in ‘cross-border’ collaboration.

Journalists and bloggers from Russia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, the Baltics or the Caucasus will have the opportunity to work together to produce stories through partnership and collaboration that transcend their national border. Participants will be offered distance mentoring and seminars to help them to produce insightful stories. Perspektivy will cover participants’ costs for research trips as part of the project.

“Cross-Border journalism” programme is an opportunity for journalists and bloggers in the early and mid stages of their career looking for the chance to develop their skills in international reporting and enhance their professional network abroad.
Working in teams, participants can produce joint or individual work. These stories can be on any topic, as long as they draw on examples from outside of their home country. For example, refugee and migrant crises, climate changes, food production and its export/import, media, or civil society. Other ideas are welcome.

Candidates may apply as part of a team, or individually, and allow Perspektivy mentors to match them up with another journalist. Priority will be given to team applications where participants represent different countries and media outlets. For individual applicants in addition to story idea we recommend to give us a list of topics and areas of their journalistic interests for we could invite successful individual candidates to become a part of other project teams. For team application each member of the team have to fill in application form individually though list other members of a team in the same field of application where the story idea described.

However, all candidates must apply with a well thought through story idea, and list of probable costs, and list of potential members of a team or at least mention those countries from which they would like journalists to work with on a story development.

Benefits

  • Successful candidates will receive professional mentoring, assistance for research trips arrangements.
  • Reimbursement of costs for those trips.
  • Travel costs, accommodation and per diem for both programme launch and closing 2-days seminars will also be covered by the programme.

This programme will involve the following activities:

28-29 October 2017. A two days workshop in Kishinev, where teams can meet up with Perspektivy mentors to discuss ideas, work on story angles and plan a road-map forward.

30 October 2017 – 15 December 2017. A mentoring phase, where the participants return to their home destinations and continue work remotely with experienced mentors and senior journalists as they work on producing their stories.
Each team can choose most convenient time from the mentoring phase period to undertake short-term research trip to collect information for their cross-border story. Travel costs and per diem will be reimbursed by the programme.

16-17 December 2017. A two days review session in Almaty where the teams meet again to finalise their pieces and discuss them with mentors and journalists on the scheme.

15 January 2018 approximate date of publishing stories.
Although production of stories is the ultimate outcome, the responsibility for the publication or dissemination of them rests with the journalists and their professional editors. Perspektivy does not exercise editorial control.

Eligibility criteria:

Journalists, freelancers, bloggers must apply with a story idea that transcends a national border.
Priority will be given to those team applications where participants of the team are from different countries and media outlets

Skills for Youth Program (Funding/Grant)

Skills for Youth Program (Funding/Grant)

Deadline Second proposal round (August 28 to October 20, 2017)

The Skills for Youth Program (SYP) seeks to identify and rigorously evaluate innovative solutions to improve youth employment in Latin America.

Specifically, one of its goals is to address the gap between youth skills and labor market demand. J-PAL’s Skills for Youth Program (SYP) will support the evaluation of new programs to address the mismatch between youth’s skills and labor market demands in Latin America. Today, 19.1 percent of Latin Americans between the ages of 15 and 24 are neither employed nor currently being educated or trained (NEET).

On the other hand, more than one third of Latin American firms believe that a key factor constraining the region’s growth is the lack of adequate skills in the labor force. SYP aims to generate rigorous evidence addressing this mismatch.

Using the evidence generated through randomized evaluations, (SYP) aim to disseminate lessons learned and scale up what works. To accomplish this, SYP will fund three to seven randomized evaluations of innovative programs and then encourage policymakers to use this new evidence to inform their decisions.

Benefit

The maximum amount that will be given to proposals will be $100,000.

Note: All proposals should aim to have preliminary results in 12-18 months.

SYP focuses exclusively on Latin America and the Caribbean (excluding Brazil).

RESEARCH PRIORITIES

  • What is the optimal structure of job training programs? How long should youth remain in training programs to fully develop their skills? Is there an ideal combination of in-classroom training and on-the-job training?
How can we teach students “soft” skills that will help them work in teams, proactively solve problems, and innovate in their future jobs?
  • What can training programs offer youth and employers to help them assess the quality and relevance of the training participants receive? Why is demand for trainings low? What are the greatest barriers to participating in training programs and what are the most effective ways to address them?
  • How can we improve the quality of what students learn in vocational training programs? How can we improve the content of these programs? Do we need to select or prepare instructors differently?
  • How can targeting of youth employment programs be improved to identify youth who are likely to benefit from these programs? How can youth be informed about which options are best for them?
  • What is the best way to provide targeted information to youth about existing training options and the labor market impacts of those programs? How can we connect educational institutions and potential employers to ensure that training provides adequate skills for the job market?
  • Can helping youth navigate the transition to the labor force improve other aspects of their well-being, such as psychological and emotional well-being, health, and participation in criminal activities?
  • Are young people’s expectations and aspirations mismatched with the realities of the labor market? Can providing youth with information about the realities of the labor market help them to make better decisions?

Eligible Region:
Latin America/The Caribbean

Eligibility:

  • J-PAL Affiliates
  • J-PAL post-docs
  • Youth Initiative Special Invitees
  • J-PAL LAC Regional Invitees
