The Esri Young Scholars Award program was launched in 2012 to recognize the exemplary work in geospatial sciences of undergraduate and graduate students at universities around the world. It is offered by Esri in cooperation with its international distributors. Nominees finalised by Sambus Geospatial undergo a selection procedure which requires a full overview of the candidate’s work.

Eligibility

The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students studying disciplines related to Geospatial Science.

  • Applicant must be under 30 years of age
  • Applicants must have completed their undergraduate (BSc.) or graduate program (MSc. or MPhil.) which is related to the geospatial field, from a recognized college or university in any of our operational regions.
  • Project work must be socially relevant or technically innovative
  • Project work or Thesis should have been completed using the ArcGIS suite of software.

Entry Process:

  • Export your final year project or thesis in PDF format.
  • Generate a map package for your ArcGIS project.
  • Complete the online form on our YSA Landing page and upload the thesis Document. You may include other relevant links to your project, listed in one Word(docs.) document.
  • When shortlisted, our team would contact and guide you to submit your map package.

ITTO Fellowship Program 2023 (Grants US$10,000 max)

ITTO, through its Freezailah Fellowship Fund, is offering a fellowship opportunity to promote human resource development and to strengthen professional expertise in member countries in tropical forestry and related disciplines. The maximum amount for a fellowship grant is US$10,000.

If you want to apply, those are the priority areas:

  • Promote good governance and enabling policy frameworks for strengthening SFM and related trade, and enhancing SFM financing and investment;
  • Increase the contribution of tropical forests to national and local economies, including through international trade;
  • Enhance the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in tropical timber-producing forests;
  • Reduce tropical deforestation and forest degradation and enhance the provision of environmental services;
  • Improve the quality and availability of information on tropical forests, forest product markets and trade; and
  • Build and develop human resource capacity to implement SFM and increase trade in forest goods and services from sustainably managed forests.

Funding Award

The maximum amount for a fellowship award is US$10,000. ITTO Fellowship Award provides tuition/training/conference fees, transportation fees, daily subsistence allowance, book allowance and other allowances. For post-graduate studies, only a partial tuition fee or a small research grant can be provided. Approved Fellowship Awards are non-transferable to other programmes or institutions.

Eligible Activities

  • Participation in international/regional conferences, short term training courses, training internships at industries, research and educational institutions, study tours, and lecture/demonstration tours;
  • Technical document preparation, publication and dissemination, such as manuals and monographs;
  • Small grants for post graduate studies

Eligibility:

  • Only nationals of ITTO Member countries are eligible to apply.
  • Awards are to be made to individuals not to institutions.
  • Previous ITTO Fellowship awardees are not eligible to apply for an ITTO Fellowship, within two years of receiving an award and submitting to the Secretariat a final report on the activity for which the award was made.

Note: The final selection will be made during the 59th ITTC Session (13-17 November 2023, Pattaya, Thailand) and the results will be posted on the ITTO website around 25 November 2023.

Participants join live online workshops and networking sessions, explore curated digital content, and create a community-based conservation project to practice research, storytelling and presentation skills. We are committed to creating cohorts of young people from diverse backgrounds, beliefs and cultures so that participants can develop a network of peers and professionals to support their journey to becoming an informed changemaker for nature.

Freshwater is vital for life on Earth, for people, species, and places across the natural world. Yet, in many places around the globe, our management of freshwater resources is becoming unsustainable. Understanding the interconnectedness and complexity of local and regional freshwater issues is critical to living sustainably on Earth.

In this remote Externship, externs will translate global freshwater conservation issues into a local context, make them relevant and accessible to their communities, and offer solutions to local or regional problems.

This Externship is a 10-hour-per-week fully remote experience where all meetings and events are recorded.

Externship starts September 11, 2023: This remote Externship will last 8 weeks.

Payment Award:

$500 Stipend: Students who successfully complete their externships will receive their educational stipends at the end of the program.

Eligibility:

  • Young people ages 18-25 from around the globe interested in learning about introductory conservation approaches and exploring a career in conservation.

  • No prior work experience or coursework in conservation or environmental topics is required.

The Experience:

  • Learn the basics of various freshwater conservation issues and approaches through resources and case studies provided by the National Geographic Society and
    The Nature Conservancy;

  • Learn and apply primary and secondary research methods to investigate ongoing conservation efforts and identify freshwater conservation issues in your local area or region;
  • Speak to local leaders, conservationists, and community members to gain an understanding of freshwater issues and their impact on the local community;

  • Conduct a landscape/gap analysis to identify gaps in freshwater conservation efforts in your area and propose solutions to issues you may uncover;

  • Gain skills in written and visual storytelling to communicate freshwater issues and how your community can help.

The Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) Apprentice Training Program (ATP) is a foundation level training program designed to equip young Nigerians with knowledge and skills for the Oil and gas industry

This program has been run since 1995 by Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU), an affiliate of ExxonMobil Corporation and operator of the Joint Venture with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

The ATP will run for 23 months (approximately) at the MPNU Technical Training Center (TTC), in Eket, Akwa Ibom State. This opportunity presents both classroom and practical learning experience, including on-the-job attachments at operating facilities.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive an MPNU “Certificate of Completion” in their specific field of study (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Process Operations).

  • Must be Nigerians
  • Must possess a government issued Identity card (Voters Card, National ID, Valid Driver’s License, International Passport)

LLM/MPhil (Human Rights & Democratisation in Africa) Scholarship, South Africa

The LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa (HRDA) is a prestigious one-year course where 25-30 exceptional individuals spend six months in Pretoria and six months at one of the 12 partner universities all over Africa. They are taught by eminent lecturers in the field of human rights and undergo many practical training exercises. It is the only course of its kind in Africa.

The HRDA Master’s programme is connected with the other six Global Campus’ regional Master’s programmes through lecturer exchanges and participation in common global activities targeting both faculty and students.

Scholarships:

A limited number of up to 30 students are selected per year. Depending on the availability of funding, full-scholarships covering at least tuition, accommodation and official programme activities are covered for up to 25 citizens of Africa. Students who do not receive scholarships may be admitted as self-funding or partial-self funding students, provided they meet all the minimum admission criteria and provided they guarantee payment of all or at least a significant part of tuition, accommodation and official programme activities, to an amount set by the Centre annually.

The African Liberty Writing Fellowship program is a year-long program designed to train young Africans interested in academia, media, public policy, or any other critical-and-analytical-writing-related career, in opinion article writing. Accepted applicants will complete a five-week mandatory online course. The top thirty-five candidates from the five-week training will be admitted as African Liberty writing fellows.

The program, from the 5-week training to the last day of fellowship, is done entirely online.

African Liberty identifies and trains young promising African freedom advocates in professional critical writing and helps them kick-start careers in journalism and public policy by working with Africa-focused think tanks and partner media outlets.

African Liberty produces and promotes original reporting, interviews, and commentary to raise the level of substantive discussion both among Africans and between Africa and the rest of the world.

The Watson Institute is launching a fully-funded Venture Accelerator program for next-generation entrepreneurs with the skills, resources, and experience to scale the impactful ventures they are building. Fellows will learn advanced skills in entrepreneurship and leadership, have the opportunity to earn seed funding, garner experience, and build a global network, as they lay the foundation to empower many more individuals and transform their communities.

This program is offered with virtual and in-person components that allows fellows to take advantage of the global cohort while also focusing on creating local impact within their communities. Virtual Programming includes: Impact Speaker Series, Workshops, and Weekly Check Ins. In-Person Programming includes in person Immersive in Boulder, CO. Up to $6,000 available in seed funding for select Fellows, based on comprehensive performance in the program, progress and impact throughout the Accelerator.

This is a 16-week program with weekly programming from July 20th – October 31st. The program launches with an in-person Immersive in Boulder, Colorado. The Immersive will take place from July 20th – July 28th. During the remaining 14 weeks, the weekly time commitment is approximately 6–8 hours per week.

  • Entrepreneur leading an early-stage social impact venture with demonstrated impact metrics and traction.

  • Able to commit to the 16-week program including the in-person Immersive in Boulder, Colorado with a weekly time commitment of 6–8 hours per week.

  • From any geographical location with a preference to applicants from the USA, Brazil, China, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
