2018 Fellowships for MSc programme in Sanitation, Delft, The Netherlands

2018 Fellowships for MSc programme in Sanitation, Delft, The Netherlands

Deadline: 15 November 2017 (23.59 CET)
In partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (IHE Delft) launches a new Master of Science Programme in Sanitation. This unique, internationally recognized programme is designed for completion in 12 months and there are fellowships available for top talents. The new programme will start on 23 April 2018 and is based at IHE Delft in the Netherlands, with thesis work abroad.

The state-of-the-art content was developed and provided by the world’s top experts from both academia and practice. This demand-driven and practice orientated programme will yield graduates with fundamental understanding and knowledge as well as the skills necessary for creating impact. All graduates will benefit from a dedicated career development programme, supported by the BMGF and will become a member of the Global Faecal Sludge Management Learning Alliance and alumni community.

UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Sanitation is high on the global agenda: universal access to clean water and sanitation is one of seventeen goals (SDGs) that make up the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Postgraduate professional education is one of the key elements needed to achieve these goals, as it was recognized that water, in one way or another, is related to all the goals. Recent reports confirm that there is a lack of sanitation professionals in lower income countries, and that more (post)graduate sanitation training centres are needed to attain the SDGs. Much of IHE Delft’s work contributes to Goal 6 or related environmental goals, notably by educating water professionals, undertaking research and developing innovative solutions to sanitation, environment and food security challenges.

IHE Delft envisions a world in which people manage their water and environmental resources in a sustainable manner, and in which all sectors of society, particularly the poor, can enjoy the benefits of basic services. The mission of IHE Delft is to contribute to the education and training of professionals, to expand the knowledge base through research and to build the capacity of sector organizations, knowledge centres and other institutions active in the fields of water, the environment and infrastructure in developing countries and countries in transition.

Fellowships

Fifteen top talents will be admitted to the first edition of the MSc in Sanitation (academic cohort 2018-2019) and will receive a scholarship. In the subsequent editions, starting from the class 2019-2020, the programme will be open to more students (up to 50) and funding beyond scholarships provided by the BMGF will be necessary. Call for applications is open . The starting date of the new MSc programme is 23 April 2018.

○ A university level Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (see below), obtained at university of recognized standing, comparable in level with a Bachelor degree from a research university in the Netherlands;

Provisional admission to the programme will be granted to applicants who have successfully passed the entrance examination and who have sent proof of sufficient knowledge of English before 1 January 2018 at the latest. All non-native English-speaking applicants must satisfy the English language requirements for all IHE Delft’s educational programmes.

Helsinki International Curatorial Programme 2018 (Fully Funded)

Helsinki International Curatorial Programme 2018 (Fully Funded)

Deadline: October 31, 2017 (11:59 pm, GMT +2)

Since 2013, Helsinki International Curatorial Programme has offered annually up to four one-month residencies in Helsinki for curators of contemporary art. The programme is co-organised by HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme and Frame Contemporary Art Finland.

A public event (e.g. a lecture, workshop, screening) is organised as part of the residencies. The events are integrated either to the programme at Frame and HIAP (for instance to the ‘Meet the Curator’ discussion series) or organised at the premises of our local partner organisations. The main purpose of the public event is to share the fellows’ curatorial research and projects with local professional audience, but the format of the event can vary depending on the specific characteristics of each project.

The length of the curatorial residency is one calendar month. In 2018, the residencies will be organised as follows:

  • May 2018: 2 one-month curator residencies
  • November 2018: 2 one-month curator residencies

The applicants are asked to state which residency period they prefer in their application form.

The selections will be made by a jury of local artists and art professionals, including representatives of Frame and HIAP. The selected fellows will be notified by the end of December 2017.

The aims of the programme are two-fold:

  • To allow internationally active, professional curators the chance to connect with the local contemporary art field and plan projects in collaboration with artists and partner organisations operating in Finland.
  • To support curatorial research in its diverse and emergent forms.

APPLICATION CRITERIA

  • The applicant should have at least 2–3 years professional experience in curating (relevant, formal education is not obligatory but can be considered as an advantage), either within an institutional context or independently.
  • A clearly stated research interest or a project outline. Please note that HICP supports first and foremost curatorial research, professional development and connections. The programme can be connected with other, production-oriented projects, but it does not generally allow the realisation of large-scale productions.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

To apply, applicants must submit the following by using an online application form:

  • Short bio and a curatorial statement
  • Working plan describing the professional activities the applicant plans to undertake during the residency period
  • Presentation materials of the applicant’s previous projects (links to curator’s website and/or other online material is sufficient)
  1. Applications or supporting material sent by e-mail without using the online application form will not be taken into consideration.

Please note the following guidelines regarding additional material supporting your application:

– It is advised that all the supporting material is stored online and can be downloaded via the use of hyperlinks, which are mentioned in the application. Please make sure that the links do not expire before you have received the decision of the Jury.

– All image / video / sound samples should be stored and shared online. It is advised to use platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc, so that downloading isn’t required to access the material.

– Please note that we are unable to contact applicants upon receipt of each application, to address individual inquiries regarding proposals, or to comment further upon the selection process.

Benefits:

  • The HICP curators-in-residence will live and work at HIAP’s international residency centre on the island of Suomenlinna, a 15 minute ferry-trip away from the centre of Helsinki.
  • HIAP offers the resident curators a combined workspace and accommodation.
  • Frame provides them with a working grant (39 euros per residency day)
  • A travel allowance from and to the  curator’s place of residence.
  • Both organisations provide the curator fellows with individualised assistance and networking support tailored to their project or research. The HICP curators have access to the international residency community and programme of events at HIAP, while Frame provides contacts with extensive networks of Finnish artists and other art professionals.
