​(Partially Funded) Global Sustainability Fellows Program Jerusalem 2018

The GSF Program represents a unique opportunity for transformative personal growth, with a dynamic curriculum focused on sustainability, systems thinking, and community development.

As such, fellows are required to stay for the entirety of the program, which will take place from June 16 – July 7, 2018. Fellows will be expected to participate in a remote orientation program, which will include readings, short assignments, and Skype meetings, representing a commitment of 1-2 hours per week for six weeks, beginning in late April.

Following the summer session, fellows will be expected to complete a “concept note” for an independent project that will demonstrate application of the tools they acquired during the summer. Fellows will be supported in this effort through mentorship by GSF faculty..
Benefits 

  • Fellows’ room, board, and program fees will be covered entirely by The GSF.
  • Fellows will only be responsible for airfare to and from Israel, and pocket money for snacks or souvenirs during field trips or nights out. 
  • A limited number of need-based travel stipends may be available.

Eligibility

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are entering, currently enrolled, or recently graduated from (within one year) an accredited graduate-level program. However, we are open to considering applications from other highly skilled individuals with unique life experiences or backgrounds. We encourage applications from underrepresented countries and communities.
  • Interdisciplinary work is central to the GSF approach. Students of all disciplines are encouraged to apply, regardless of their familiarity with the sustainability field.
  • The Global Sustainability Fellows Program considers students, employees, applicants for admission or employment , and those seeking access to programs on the basis of individual merit.   • Names, emails and phone numbers for two professional references. These should be people who know you well, and can speak to both your academic performance and your ability to work in a group.

NNPC/TOTAL invites suitably qualified faculties in Nigerian Universities for:

Description

MIT-EU will select a number of outstanding young faculties from the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering from Nigerian universities to spend a semester at MIT. Selected fellows will observe instructions in their disciplines and work in groups to prepare innovative curricula and approaches teaching that can be introduced into their home universities on their return.
Benefits

  • MIT-ETT will cover the travel, living and instructional materials expenses of the participants. The home universities of successful applicants will commit to provide paid leaves of absence during the period of the MIT program.
  • The successful fellows will spend either the Fall 2018 (September-December) and Spring 2019 (February-May) semester at MIT observing classes similar to ones they currently teach. 
  • They will also work on new curricula materials and teaching approaches for adoption in their own classes.
  • While at MIT, they will participate regularly in MIT subjects (including lectures, recitations and tutorials) that correspond to courses they teach in their home universities.
  • They will also attend the weekly Empowering The Teachers Fellows Seminar meetings on curriculum development and meet with MIT professors and teaching assistants. Beyond the fellowship semester at MIT, Empowering The Teachers will support online communications, periodic reunions and meetings in Nigeria in order to build a community of faculty devoted to excellence and innovation in Science and Engineering education.

During their semester at MIT, Fellows do the following:

  • observe instruction in their own disciplines & subjects
  • interact with MIT faculty teaching in their own disciplines & subjects
  • develop courses based on problem-solving approach inspired by equivalent course at MIT
  • discuss & explore curricular enrichment & reform through both formal and informal interaction with the MIT community

The ultimate goal is to reform their current curricular using new materials, approaches and methods that exemplify the best of MIT’s practices: problem-solving, student-centered, innovation and bringing knowledge to bear on the world’s greatest challenges

Functions:

  • WHO’s Speechwriter intern is responsible for developing high-impact communications for the WHO Country Representative (WR). This internship requires strategic thinking with the ability to deliver consistently high quality, well-written, thought-provoking materials under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Support the WR through drafting of speeches and articles, consistently ensuring a high level of accuracy and flexibility in creating, writing, and adapting content and presentation for a wide variety of audiences;
  • Undertaking original research on a range of development topics including within the context of UN system and Country Cooperation Strategy, South-South and triangular strategies of UN system partners, universal health coverage, climate change, equity and health security) as needed to substantively inform the speechwriting process;
  • Analyzing complex information, including statistics, financial information and other numerical, qualitative and quantitative data, to extract key messages for integration into speeches, and other communications materials as required;
  • Researching audience expectations, event agenda and topics, and assist in focusing the purpose of each speech to tailor messages for maximum audience appeal and impact;
  • Drafting other substantive written material for the Office of the WR as requested, including statements, briefings, op-eds, opinions, articles, talking points, key messages and other written communications. This may include targeted messages for internal communications within the United Nations or for specific stakeholders and partners;
  • Maintaining an up-to-date archive of speeches and data on the WHO website;
  • Extracting key messages from speeches/presentations/articles for dissemination through social media channels, in close collaboration with the Communications Officer;
  • The Speechwriter will be part of a communications team in WCO Nigeria, and will report to the WR (Communication officer).

Required Skills and Experience

EDUCATION:

Qualified/suitable intern from the field of journalism, communications, sustainable development, social science, international relations or related field with the following academic qualifications: 

(a) enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); graduated with a university degree as defined in (a) and (b) above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year after the graduation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent general understanding of public health, gender, equity and other related issues;
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team structure in a multicultural environment;
  • Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite, and particularly in development of Powerpoint presentation materials;
  • Familiarity with the UN system in general and/or WHO in particular are an asset.

Language:

  • Proficiency in English;
  • Knowledge of one of the other five official languages of the UN (French, Portuguese and Spanish) would be an asset.

COMPETENCIES

  • Have a good understanding of strategic communication and how it can contribute to the achievement of specific development goals;
  • Possess excellent writing skills;
  • Be able to write quickly, clearly and concisely;

The Computer Science Department at ETH Zurich offers the Student Summer Research Fellowship to allow undergraduate and graduate students to obtain research experience during the summer months. Fellowships will be competitively awarded every year to a number of student applicants with excellent track records and an interest in research.

This position is located at the NASPA office in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate for this position will be available 40 hours per week for at least 8 consecutive weeks during the summer. Start and end dates are flexible; however, candidates should expect to start in late May and depart late July. A sample of the opportunities the NASPA Intern would engage in are:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of national level conferences, institutes, and online professional development opportunities for NASPA members

Skills Needed

​The Leventis Foundation (Nigeria) is a charitable company of the A.G Leventis Group dedicated to the training of farmers in modern and sustainable agricultural practices and rational use of natural resources.

The Foundation has been running agricultural training for youths and farmers since 1987 and currently has six schools in the different agro-ecological zones of Nigeria. Eligibility

The competition sponsored by Jarvee.com is open to all participants who are currently enrolled in a high school, college, or university with a GPA of not less than 3.0. You will have to prove both of these points in order to claim the prize.

  • All contestants must be eligible to join the contest.
  • The contest is free and you won’t be charged a single dime to join.
  • Send your finished paper as an attachment to scholarships[@]jarvee.com. The format should be .doc or .docx.
  • Limit each entry to one per email account or person. Updates will NOT be accepted. Your email needs to be on a university/edu domain .
  • Each entry must have a minimum word count of 1,000 words and a maximum of 2,500 words.
  • All entries must not have any content that is harassing, defamatory, or offensive. Otherwise, they will be disqualified.
  • The submitted essay must be original which means it should be free from plagiarized content. All essays will be checked thoroughly and run through the admin’s professional plagiarism checker. If there are non-unique pieces, they will be declined.
  • By entering, you agree that your entry is original and it does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any party.
  • Your participation constitutes your approval to Jarvee.com’s Terms and Conditions regarding the contest.
