Opportunity for journalist inspiring to gain skills in investigative and data journalist.
Goals:
- Instructing 45 mainstream, citizen, and free-lance journalists, journalism students and bloggers in investigative and data journalism.
- Widening the participants’ skills and knowledge in understanding Kenyan budgetary processes (Health and Education)
- Training participants how to access, assess and communicate information about government budgets and spending, and suspected mismanagement and corruption and on citizens’ rights to education and health care.
Benefits
A 3-month Grant and mentorship program will be offered for the 10 best journalists after the training.
Training outcomes:
- Unearth cases of corruption in the health and education sectorInvestigate reported cases of suspected corruption
- Analyse financial/budgetary information in order to reveal suspected corruption or mismanagement of public funds in the health and education sectors.
Selection Criteria:
- Present a viable investigative story proposal about health, education or corruption (that will be developed during the training as assignment).
- Be based in Nairobi or contribute for a publication/outlet in Nairobi
- Available to attend all the training days
- Able to clearly demonstrate interest/ability in journalism
- Attend the training with a personal laptop
