Application for the Zeribe Nwosu Scholarship (ZNS) is hereby invited from qualified candidates who are currently enrolled in any undergraduate degree subject in any public Nigerian university. Although this scholarship will be mainly merit-based, it will prioritize applicants who, in addition academic merit, also have difficulties funding their studies. Application for ZNS is free of charge.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicant must:
- be in year 4 of undergraduate studies.
- be a student in a public Nigerian university.
- have attained a cumulative grade point aggregate (CGPA) of at least 3.5 on a scale of 5 (from year 1-3).
- show an admission letter or referee letter from the head of department.
NUMBER OF AWARDS AND AMOUNT
Five (5) selected applicants will each be awarded N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira only). The money can be used to support school expenses, e.g., tuition fees, research/project cost, laptop/internet access, books or other costs, e.g., house rent, or settling school clearance costs, as be crucial for the successful completion of the applicant’s study. This fund will be awarded only once.
APPLICATION MATERIALS
- A personal statement (1-page) describing the applicant’s academic background, motivation/career goals, and example(s) of prior or current volunteer services (this could include what you do/previously did to support your church or mosque, NGOs, village/community, etc).
- CV (2-3 pages – do not include referees)
- One letter of recommendation on official letterhead (1-2 pages) from any lecturer in your department.
- Unofficial transcripts of year 1-3 academic records (possibly printed out from the university’s student portal or typed and signed by the head of department).
- A statement of need, explaining difficulties in funding your studies. Where applicable, give examples of prospective expenditures you will inevitably make, for example, towards research work, remaining school fees, clearance, house rent, etc. (min: 100 words, max: 200 words).

TIMELINE
- Application opens – January 1, 2022
- Deadline – April 1, 2022 (applications cannot be submitted after this date)
- Interviews – July 1-20, 2022
- Announcement of the successful candidates – August 1, 2022
REVIEW/SELECTION PROCESS
Please pay attention to the information outlined above. After the deadline, all applications will be evaluated by the ZNS review team/volunteers. Each applicant will be scored based on the eligibility criteria, strength of his or her application materials and the communication skills demonstrated during the interview.
Scores will be allocated as follows:
• Fulfillment of the eligibility criteria (5%)
• Clear attention to detail (5%)
• Personal statement (20%)
• CV and recommendation letter (10%)
• Evidence of academic performance (unofficial transcript) (25%)
• Statement of need (10%)
• Interview (25%)
Applicants with the highest total score will receive the award.
