Catholic Relief Services’ International Development Fellows Program prepares dedicated global citizens to pursue a career in international relief & development work. CRS empowers Fellows to hone their skills and gain practical field experience while contributing to impactful work. Each Fellow works alongside experienced CRS staff to address critical issues facing developing countries today.
The number of Fellows hired varies from year to year, as it is subject to agency needs. Typically, CRS hires 12-15 Fellows a year.
The Fellowship is a unique 12-month professional development opportunity, designed to prepare Fellows for success in a range of onward positions with CRS. The Fellowship is centered upon skill building in the following four areas:

Resource/budget management
Reporting
PROJECT DESIGN:
Research, assessments, analysis
Participatory design
Results framework & theory of change
Proposal development
SYSTEMS & OPERATIONS:

Human Resources
Finance & compliance
Safety, security, risk mitigation
PARTNERSHIP:
Project planning
Program implementation
Capacity strengthening
Reflection & assessment
Eligibility:
Individuals from all countries are eligible for this opportunity. Candidates do not need U.S. citizenship or work authorization. However, all successful candidates must be fluent in English (with strong oral and written communication skills) and proficient in any other language.
Basic Qualifications:
- Graduate degree (Master’s level or higher) in relevant field (e.g. Sustainable Development, Global Affairs, Development Economics, Public Administration, Agriculture, Health, Business, Finance, Supply Chain)
- At least six months of work or volunteer experience in a developing country
- Must be willing and able to be based in locations with tropical and infectious diseases and limited access to medical facilities.
Required Languages:
- Fluency in English with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Professional proficiency in a second language (preference given to major languages where CRS works e.g. French, Arabic).
- Travel – Must be willing and able to travel within country of assignment 10 -25% of the time.
Benefits:
- The stipend is approximately $32,000 (paid in semi-monthly installments). Fellows pay their portion of health insurance premiums and contribute to housing like other CRS employees. Depending on the country assignment, Fellows may receive a cost-of-living allowance.
