Deadline: February 5, 2020 at 23:59 PST (Pacific Standard Time)
The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is extremely proud to announce that our network is going to organize the 2020 Global Youth Biodiversity Summit in Miyazaki and would like to invite applications from youth interested in participating.
The Youth Summit will take place from 20 to 26 April in Miyazaki, Japan.
It will bring together up to 230 youth from all over the world. (Please note that arrivals and departures will be arranged on 19 April and 27 April).
The goals of the 2020 Global Youth Biodiversity Summit in Miyazaki are:
- Bring together the youth community active on biodiversity
- Consolidate a youth position for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework
- Work together on actions for the youth roadmap for the post-2020 framework
- Kick-start a youth-led implementation action plan for 2020-2030 to support the framework
- Celebrate 10 years of youth engagement in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and United Nations Decade on Biodiversity.
GYBN hopes that this Youth Summit will help to further mobilize, empower and coordinate young people and youth organizations that are working on Biodiversity.
As part of the preparatory process for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework which is expected to be adopted at the UN Biodiversity Conference in October 2020 in Kunming in China, the 2020 Global Youth Biodiversity Summit in Miyazaki comes at a critical moment: 2020 is widely perceived as a “super year for Biodiversity” and presents a once-in-ten-years opportunity to change the course for biodiversity conservation around the world and to establish young people as agents of change and partners for youth-led implementation actions.
The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is an international network of 340 youth organizations, representing more than 680,000 youth from 145 countries whose common goal is to prevent the loss of biodiversity.
GYBN represents the voice of global youth in the negotiations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), raises awareness among young people of the values of biodiversity, and connects individuals and youth organizations in order to build a global coalition to halt the loss of biodiversity.
As the official coordination platform for youth participation in the negotiations under the CBD, GYBN is committed to bringing the opinions and positions of young people into the political process, empowering young people to take action. Recognized and supported by the CBD Secretariat, GYBN seeks to inspire global youth and future leaders to work for the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity for a healthy environment and society.
