European Immunization Training Workshop
The World Federation of Science Journalists is organizing a 2.5 day European Immunization Training Workshop at the Brocher Foundation site in Geneva, Switzerland.
Up to 20 participants from Europe will be selected for attending the workshop. International diversity, gender balance, a mix of experiences and personal motivation to the topic will be considered in the selection process.
The objectives of this training workshop:
- to provide factual information on the state of immunization in Europe.
- increase journalism skills for accurate immunization science coverage.
The training will cover many vaccination-related topics relevant to the European context such as:
- basic vaccination science: how do vaccines work?
- economy of vaccination
- science behind immunization strategies
- vaccine hesitancy social science
- social media polarization
The Training Workshop Program:
- Fabiana Zollo (Ca’ Foscari University, International Center for the Humanities and Social Change) on the Use of social media and polarization.
- Emilie Karafillakis (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) on the role of culture and values in the anti-vax movement.
- WHO experts, Dr Martin Howell Friede and Dr. Raymond Hutubessy, on the economy of vaccination, the future of the immunization, research and new vaccines.

- Travel expenses (economy class)

Eligibility:

Anyone who actively writes, edits or produces science news, information or commentary for an independent media, is working as a staff member of such media or as a freelance journalist in Europe.
- The workshop’s target is to approach the journalists mainly from France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, and Romania. However, applications from all over Europe will be considered.
- The primary focus is on junior science journalists or general beat journalists, occasionally covering science topics.
- English proficiency is required.
