The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany is seeking an individual to fill in the position of an Assistant to the Political and Economic Section
starting as soon as possible
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a network of contacts with the Nigeria Government, political parties, economic actors and the international community.
- Attend meetings and events with the Nigerian Government and international community, including covering EU working groups and to provide reporting across the German Embassy.
- Organize meetings and prepare briefing materials for the Ambassador and support wider political and economic team.
- Conduct research and prepare analytical materials on political and economic developments to help the political and economic team provide relevant policy advice to the Ambassador and the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
- Support drafting of regular political and economic reports and assessments.
- Conduct research to help draft responses to questions from German parliamentarians.
- Support oversight and management of different Embassy projects in the fields of policy and peace and security in order to increase their effectiveness.
- Provide organizational support for conferences, meetings, events, and trips (e.g. during high level visits from Germany).
Eligibility/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Government, Political Science, Economics, International Relations, Law or related fields.
- A strong understanding of the government, the political agenda and international interest in Nigeria
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and persuasion skills.
- Relevant professional activity in international organisations, non-governmental organisations
or the public sector desirable. - Experience in building and managing relationships with government officials, international
organisations, NGOs and businesses. - High proficiency in the use of Windows Office programs (Word, Excel)
- Excellent written and spoken English. German not required, but experience with Germany or
its language would be an asset. - Ability to communicate in a clear, interesting and politically-sensitive manner
Contract Condition:
- Contract conditions and compensation are based on the standard employment agreement for non-diplomatic staff at the German Embassy.
- Full time job (40 hours per week)
- Starting date: as soon as possible.
- Duration of contract: The contract will be limited for the period of 12 months with an option for extension.
- Applicants who are not Nigerian citizens must have a valid residence and work permit.
