The 13th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition 2020 for Youth over the World (Samsung Tab S; Star Prize)

The 13th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition 2020 for Youth over the World (Samsung Tab S; Star Prize)

Deadline: September 2nd, 2020

Samsung Engineering jointly with United Nations Environment Programme would like to launch “The 13th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition” inviting youth all over the world to raise awareness on the theme of the upcoming World Environment Day – Time for Nature.

As many of you know, World Environment Day is the United Nations flagship day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.

13th Eco-Generation Environmental Essay Competition: Time for Nature

To commemorate WED and its annual theme, Eco-generation would like to celebrate the bigger and better WED than ever and to call on Tunza Eco-generation members around the world to show their will to act for #Nature for our future generations by writing an essay.

It also aims to collect inspiring and creative ideas about the ways to reverse biodiversity loss by requiring us to think about various reasons why maintaining a healthy biodiversity is important for us and our future generations.

Biodiversity may be seen as an intricate web, in which each part is interdependent. When one component is changed–or removed–the entire system is affected, and this can produce positive–or negative–consequences.

In 2020, the theme is biodiversity–a concern that is both urgent and existential. Recent events, from bushfires in Brazil, the United States and Australia to locust infestations across East Africa–and now, a global disease pandemic–demonstrate the interdependence of humans and the webs of life in which they exist.

Nature is sending us a message.
With our increasing demands, humans have pushed nature beyond its limit. In the last 50 years, the human population has doubled; the global economy has almost quadrupled and global trade has increased by about ten times. It would take 1.6 Earths to meet the demands that humans make of nature each year.

Living in harmony with nature can only be achieved if we reverse negative impact of biodiversity loss and pursue full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. World Environment Day celebrations will help build momentum and unite the global community in actions for positive change.
