2018 NASPA SUMMER INTERNSHIP —Washington DC, United States

Deadline: Friday, December 15th 2017

This position is located at the NASPA office in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate for this position will be available 40 hours per week for at least 8 consecutive weeks during the summer. Start and end dates are flexible; however, candidates should expect to start in late May and depart late July. A sample of the opportunities the NASPA Intern would engage in are:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of national level conferences, institutes, and online professional development opportunities for NASPA members
  • Learn the context of higher education and student affairs from a national and global perspective
  • Learn and understand association management
  • Assist with advising and creating a team dynamic for undergraduate summer interns at NASPA
  • Develop content and programming for Careers in Student Affairs Month (CSAM)
  • Afforded opportunities to take advantage of the social connections and events uniquely offered by working at the central office in Washington, D.C.

In addition, it is preferable that the selected intern attend the 2018 NASPA Annual Conference, where the conference registration fee will be waived and housing will be provided. The intern will have the opportunity to gain a “behind the scenes” view of the conference and support the Annual Conference as NASPA staff. The intern will be required to:

  • Attend the annual NASPA conference as a NASPA Staff Intern
  • Attend leadership meetings of a national board or center (i.e., Center for Research, Community Colleges, Faculty, James E. Scott Academy)
  • Attend two-three concurrent conference sessions
  • Engage in social media about the experience as a NASPA Intern
  • Volunteer with different aspects of the NASPA Annual Conference to include: registration area, bookstore management, NASPA Foundation etc.

Skills Needed

  • Master’s level graduate student who has completed at least one-year of a program in higher education, student affairs, or a related field
  • Possess strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal communication (both verbal and written) skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Flexibility and adaptability are key components to success in this position
  • Experience and/or interest in association management, content and/or program (conferences) development for student affairs professionals
  • Experience and/or interest in assisting with advising, along with the intern supervisor undergraduate NASPA summer interns
  • Interest in learning about NASPA on a national level; previous involvement is a plus, but not a requirement

Compensation

NASPA Summer Interns will receive a stipend and housing during their time in Washington, D.C. Official stipend amounts will be shared once finalized.
