2018 Fellowships for MSc programme in Sanitation, Delft, The Netherlands

2018 Fellowships for MSc programme in Sanitation, Delft, The Netherlands

Deadline: 15 November 2017 (23.59 CET)
In partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (IHE Delft) launches a new Master of Science Programme in Sanitation. This unique, internationally recognized programme is designed for completion in 12 months and there are fellowships available for top talents. The new programme will start on 23 April 2018 and is based at IHE Delft in the Netherlands, with thesis work abroad.

The state-of-the-art content was developed and provided by the world’s top experts from both academia and practice. This demand-driven and practice orientated programme will yield graduates with fundamental understanding and knowledge as well as the skills necessary for creating impact. All graduates will benefit from a dedicated career development programme, supported by the BMGF and will become a member of the Global Faecal Sludge Management Learning Alliance and alumni community.

UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Sanitation is high on the global agenda: universal access to clean water and sanitation is one of seventeen goals (SDGs) that make up the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Postgraduate professional education is one of the key elements needed to achieve these goals, as it was recognized that water, in one way or another, is related to all the goals. Recent reports confirm that there is a lack of sanitation professionals in lower income countries, and that more (post)graduate sanitation training centres are needed to attain the SDGs. Much of IHE Delft’s work contributes to Goal 6 or related environmental goals, notably by educating water professionals, undertaking research and developing innovative solutions to sanitation, environment and food security challenges.

IHE Delft envisions a world in which people manage their water and environmental resources in a sustainable manner, and in which all sectors of society, particularly the poor, can enjoy the benefits of basic services. The mission of IHE Delft is to contribute to the education and training of professionals, to expand the knowledge base through research and to build the capacity of sector organizations, knowledge centres and other institutions active in the fields of water, the environment and infrastructure in developing countries and countries in transition.

Fifteen top talents will be admitted to the first edition of the MSc in Sanitation (academic cohort 2018-2019) and will receive a scholarship. In the subsequent editions, starting from the class 2019-2020, the programme will be open to more students (up to 50) and funding beyond scholarships provided by the BMGF will be necessary. Call for applications is open . The starting date of the new MSc programme is 23 April 2018.
